Why learn the Arabic Language?

Allāh chose Arabic as the language of the two revelations: the Qur’ān and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ . He chose it over all of the other languages in the world!

Allāh says, (translation of the meaning): “Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’ān so that you may understand.[Qur’ān, 12:2]

Imām ash-Shāfi’ī said, “The language which Allāh favoured was the Arabic language as He revealed His Noble Book in this and he made this the language of the seal of the prophets, Muhammad ﷺ . And that is why we say that it is befitting for everyone who has the ability to learn Arabic, that they learn it, as it is the best language.” [Iqtidā Sirāt al-Mustaqeem, Volume 1, Pg 521]

Shaykh al-Albānī was asked, “Is it obligatory upon a student of knowledge to learn and communicate in the Arabic language?” The Shaykh responded, “Learning the Arabic language is an obligatory matter, as has been determined by the scholars, that if an obligatory act [a] requires you to undertake a secondary act [b] in order to fulfil the obligatory act [a], then that secondary act [b] becomes obligatory. It is not possible for a student of knowledge to understand the Qur’ān and the Sunnah except by means of the Arabic language.” [Fatāwa Shaykh al-Albāni fi al-Madīnah wa al-Imārāt, Pg 35]

Yes, we currently have four different levels that students can register for according to their level of Arabic. In each level of the programme, students cover two units of Al-‘Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk. We also offer Arabic Grammar courses.

We recommend that students complete four levels of the Arabic Language programme first (which correlates to Level 1, book 1 of Al-‘Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk) before completing the Arabic Grammar programme.

However, students may choose to complete the Arabic Grammar programme as a stand alone course if they wish.

We will continue the programme on a term by term basis until we complete the Al-‘Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk series in-shā Allāh. Two units of the book are covered per term. There are 13 week per term and three terms per year.

Yes, The Arabic Language Programme was designed to compliment The Misk Programme (the Islamic Studies course). Students are encouraged to do both programmes if they are able to do so in-shā Allāh. We also have offers available for students who register for both courses at the same time (called The Full Misk Package).
